Excited about death

Ha! That grabbed your attention. What I’m excited about is how well the PHIL 500 Death, Dying, and Immortality class is going.  (Sorry, non-SFSUers, it’s only available for those enrolled.) Just two sessions in, but already it seems that the students are “playing nicely”, i.e., there haven’t been any inappropriate or unfeeling, comments. They’re interested in each others’ journeys and experiences. Really, I couldn’t have asked for a better start.  Our first text is Tolstoy’s The Death of Ivan Ilych. Can’t wait to dig more into this text. It bears reading and re-reading that’s for sure. What I’m not so sure of is whether I’ll put it on my yearly reading list. We’ll see. I might change my mind.
